Boston is a pretty cheesy band overall, and this song is a pretty cheesy song overall. But does anyone actually care about that? NO. This is a damn good song to just blast in the car or in your room and belt out the lyrics. So crank the sound, and get busy belting.
Alas, we approach another lazy Sunday. I think it’s safe to say that today will be spent in bed watching movies and chowing down. Enjoy the music of Friendly Fires with their new song, “Kiss of Life”, one that is powerful, yet can swoon you as you lay around in sleepiness.
Today I’ve been watching the coverage of Sen. Ted Kennedy’s funeral and it made me so sad. What made it even more emotional was when the staff at the capital broke out into a rendition of “God Bless America”. That group coming together to remember a man, and then singing such an emotional song was a beautiful moment.
Then I got to thinking about songs and rememberence. There are definitely songs that remind me of my since-passed loved ones, and the times we’ve shared, etc. So for the rest of the day I’ll share some memories, beautiful songs, and everything in between.
What songs help you remember loves ones? What songs do you love for people still in your life? share here or email at blueorange431@yahoo.com
“We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” by Jermaine Stewart
This is an 80’s bit I’ve known about just ffrom random radio encounters, but re-fell in love with it when it played during the credits of Zach and Miri Make a Porno. Welcome a song with a nice message for once, and not a hit about boozing it up and getting naked. Sadly, Jermaine passed away due to complications of AIDS, but his song is still a favorite. The Gym Class Heroe’s cover up in the next post.
was amazing last night. blink-182 (as everyone in the universe knows by now) cancelled, so weezer did an extra-long set. fine by me! rivers wasn’t what I expected at all, though. I always knew he was a shy guy, but he’s also a little awkward. it could have just been his stage persona for the night, but it was surprising nonetheless. he does have wonderful stage presence for a meek guy, and i love him and the rest of the band (:
My grandpa was a huge John Denver fan. My parents worked until late so instead of going home to a babysitter we would just go to my grandparents until my mom got home, so I saw them literally every day (they’d even come to our house for Sunday breakfast every week). When my grandpa passed, they played John Denver’s greatest hits all through the wake and beginning of the funeral. This song happens to be one we’d always have a good time singing, and I think of them everytime it plays.
This song reminds me of this kid on my brother’s baseball team I thought was super cute. The first time I saw him, this song was playing on my iPod, so now it’s just a funny reminder of him whenever I hear it. Beyond my weird crush, it also reminds me of a Juicy Fruit commercail I’m pretty sure it played in for some random reason. Beyond all of the above, still a great song.
Ok. I like this song. I probably shouldn’t because its a cover of a song whose whole point was abstaining from nastiness (and this song is just nastiness in its purest), and because the Gym Class Heroes are a band I just never got behind. But I like it. Its a backbeat I like and rumor has it that’s Patrick Stump in the chorus. And hey, anything with some kind of Fall Out Boy connection deserves at least one listen just to say you’ve heard it.
“You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” by Dead or Alive
Thanks to Flo-Rida in an at first VERY annoying song that sampled this 80’s hit, people are at least familiar with the chorus. Others know it from The Wedding Singer, in a less annoying cover of the song. However you came about hearing it is not important, because the original is perfection in cheesy 80’s form. And no, we’re not going to post the Flo-Rida version.
